Notice to Members and Users of the Tweed River
Tweed River Estuary Management Plan
Tweed Shire Council has released the Tweed River Estuary Management Plan (TREMP) for public exhibition and comment.
The Tweed River Water Ski Club (TRWSC) supports having a management plan for the Tweed River but with changes to some of the Management Actions proposed in the Tweed River Estuary Management Plan (TREMP).
Of particular interest to water-skiers and wake boarders is the: Recommendations to NSW Roads and Maritime Services that it:
• Create a no-tow zone around Stotts Island (5.8km.) and also extends the no ski/tow zone from Dunbible Creek to Commercial Road boat ramp (1.2 km.)
These closures represent a 23 – 25 % reduction in the skiable length of the Tweed River for recreational towed water sports.
These actions can be viewed in the TREMP in:
Table 1 Action Plan – CMP Management Actions E1, E2, and the last part of E3.
The TRWSC does not support these management actions and encourages all members to consider attending and registering your attendance to one of the two ‘community conversation’ sessions, at Murwillumbah or Tweed Heads where staff will be available to discuss the plan and river management.
